When Haywood Community College?s Woodsmen?s Team competes in the Woodsmen?s Meet at Forest Festival Day this fall, the stakes will be a little higher than normal. They will be competing for a revolving trophy that goes to the winner of the dendrology contest.

The International Dendrological Society and John Palmer, HCC retired forestry instructor and campus arboretum director, commissioned a trophy for the event. For the team that wins the contest, they retain the trophy until the next contest. This revolving trophy is a prize that brings with it bragging rights and honor.

The beautiful carved oak trophy is for now in the hands on Penn State Mont Alto who won the event at this past year?s competition.
